Kris is talking, and talking, and . . .

They were successful in helping reduce some of Kris's pain and they removed his breathing tube. At first it sounded like a donkey braying when he tried to talk. They told him not to hurt himself and that he didn't need to talk. But Kris had been silent for 5 days and he had ground to make up. At first he was pretty emotional and what we originally feared came to fruition. He wanted Clare and he was not easy to console. It was time for the changing of nurses and we were required to leave for a couple of hours. We told Kris that we would come back later and left. When we got the chance to go back and see him, it was a different Kris. I have only known Kris since last October but he has never been one to talk much. The strong silent type. He now was making up for lost time. It was probably the anesthetic he was coming off of that removed his inhibitions. He was talking and talking and cracking jokes. And he was funny! Several of us said that what ever he was taking we wanted some of it. It was so good to see him laugh, even though it hurt his ribs when he laughed. Today was a good day. I hope we have more good days to come.

  1. We are praying for this darling, young couple. My daughter was babysitting for the other couple that was riding that day with Kris and Clare. She has become so emotionally attached and keeps us posted as she follows their progress on this blog. May you find comfort and peace in this trying time.
